Paul Storr (1770 - 1844) baptised 28 October 1770 in St Marylebone son of Sarah and Thomas Storr, a silver-chaser and later a victualler, who died in 1803. Paul was apprenticed to William Rock of Westminster, a victualler, between 1784 and 1791. He then went into partnership with William Frisbee, a silversmith, and later moved to Church Street, Soho working for or with Andrew Fogelberg a Swedish born silversmith. In 1796 Paul Storr moved to Air Street in Piccadilly where he built up a very important business supplying the retails trade with special orders and quality goods. In 1807 his reputation enabled him to enter into an exclusive manufacturing arrangement with Rundell, Bridge and Rundell, the crown jewellers. He employed craftsmen in a new jointly owned workshop, Storr and Co. in Dean Street, Soho,  a subsidiary of the retail house on Ludgate Hill, and this is where Joseph was working in 1818. It was reported that there were so many orders Storr and Co had to work some 10,000 ounces of silver a month in the shape of dinner services, centrepieces and other ceremonial and domestic plate. By February Storr's agreement with Rundells had terminated and Storr went off to his own independent business. Joseph may have stayed at the workshop for a while but by the mid 1820's he was living in Clerkenwell.

Joseph did not register a mark of his own so we are unable to identify pieces that he made or engraved but he must have been a talented silversmith to have been working for Storr at this time in the company's history.
